Someone's coming to play with you. Can you guess who? In this wonderful read-aloud for very young children, Gramma comes to visit and brings a surprise.
And a lot of the fun is guessing which surprise is next! Part thoughtful play, part playful imagination, this tongue tickling tale of funny animals and loving family will entertain and involve children with each turn of the page! Jane is an ordinary dog in an extraordinary circus. When she tries to be those things, Jane just doesn't feel like herself, but she also doesn't feel special. Her Ringmaster thinks so, but not for the reasons Jane believes. Ordinary can be extraordinary! A wacky tall tale about how musicians first learned to play together.
All the musicians in the kingdom are so awful that the king sends his men-at-arms to round up musicians and feed them to the royal crocodiles. Pipe and drum player Piffaro heads for the border, collecting other refugee musicians on the way. Their jam session on the road is so bad that the horse pulling the wagon figures out a way to make them all play the same music at the same timeand ;a system of lines and hoofprints.
In fact, there was a time before musical notation was devised, but thatand ;s the only part of this story that is true! Includes afterword.

I read it to my two year old almost every night at his request. What about the captain? The animals belonged to Mr. Were the villagers right to keep him from collecting what belonged to him? Why or why not? The end notes describe a much sadder true story that Circus Ship is based on. Older kids and parents can talk about what parts of the story are different. What parts are the same?
